Baptims in the Jordan River

Baptims in the Jordan River

Two days ago, pharm we witnessed baptisms at the Jordan River. Three pastors were baptized there too. I must share with you  that this is a disappointing day for me, viagra I am stuck in the hotel for a second day as a house doctor diagnosed me with pneumonia last night. After taking the medicines though, I am feeling better.

We then made our way to Jerusalem. On the way we saw hillsides with hundreds of sheep and Bedoin homes. Bedouins are a nomadic people and shepherds. Abraham was a Bedouin. Today’s Bedouins are becoming more settled and less wandering.

Then we went to the palace of Caiphas. As we read in Matthew 26:57-68

The baptism

The baptism

Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 And Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole Council were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward 61 and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.'” 62 And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”  63  But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”  65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves death.” 67 Then they spit in his face and struck him. And some slapped him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?” ESV

Here at his home he had prison cells and a pit that criminals were dropped down into by a rope. We saw restraints built into the walls. Outside of the building we saw the steps that Jesus ascended to get to Caiaphas. Down in the pit we read from Psalm 88

The pit to which prisoners were lowered.

The pit to which prisoners were lowered.

O Lord, God of my salvation;I cry out day and night before you.2 Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry! 3 For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit;I am a man who has no strength,5 like one set loose among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand.6 You have put me in the depths of the pit,in the regions dark and deep.7 Your wrath lies heavy upon me,and you overwhelm me with all your waves. 8 You have caused my companions to shun me;you have made me a horror to them.I am shut in so that I cannot escape;9  my eye grows dim through sorrow.Every day I call upon you, O Lord;I spread out my hands to you.10 Do you work wonders for the dead? Do the departed rise up to praise you?Selah11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,or your faithfulness in Abaddon?12 Are your wonders known in the darkness,or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? 13 But I, O Lord, cry to you; in the morning my prayer comes before you.14 O Lord, why do you cast my soul away? Why do you hide your face from me?15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth up,I suffer your terrors; I am helpless. 16 Your wrath has swept over me;your dreadful assaults destroy me.17 They surround me like a flood all day long;they close in on me together.18 You have caused my beloved and my friend to shun me;my companions have become darkness. The hole prisoners were dropped down through.

The hole prisoners were dropped down through.

This was a new site and information for me. Really powerful and gives new meaning to the pit from the Old Testament. Imagine being lowered into a dark, cold, filled with oder hole. Probably containing human waste as well. Total darkness.

Have you ever felt that way…like you have been lowered into a pit, feeling hopeless and your life is dark. Thank God we hope through Jesus Christ that he knows our darkness and becomes our LIGHT out of that darkness.

Shalom

Pastor Mark
