For me one of the most powerful moments of the LCMC Gathering is their opening and closing worship. We had very good speakers this year as we focused on our DNA as individuals, congregations, and association. One of the things that tickled me the most was the presiding pastor wearing a camo stole (look closely). I always wanted one when I was a pastor in northern Minnesota.
In particular, about the service I have always been greatly moved by the praying of laity over pastors. I cannot remember a time that I haven’t cried. It is such a humbling experience. And then the pastors then get to lay hands on the laity that they might be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Following worship we went to the mall where Pastor Tim was caught acting like a Texas cowboy. Click more if you want to see Pastor Tim in action. As they say, “Life is like a merry-go-round.” Read more
The final speaker at the LCMC Gathering was Pastor Bill Bohline. He is the Lead Pastor, of Hossana! Lutheran Church which is his first and only call for 35 years as a church planter. His supervising/mentor pastor was Dr. Fred Marks. Dr. Marks was the pastor that baptized me, Pastor Mark 57 years ago. Being a mission congregation is what is part of our DNA as well, we have reminded ourselves over and over again “to be mission minded.”
Yesterday, LCMC celebrated many ordination anniversaries. I was very humbled to presented with a pin celebrating my 30th anniversary of ordained ministry. And 20 of those years have been at Faith Lutheran Church with you on November 27th, 2015. I am very grateful and honored to serve God and you these many years. It hasn’t always been easy, but I have sought to be faithful.
Thank you for the call and all your support and encouragement over these many years. It is hard to believe that it has been 30 years. I too, would like to thank my family, my parents, my sons, for journeying with me these many years. And especially to my wife, Vicki, of 36 years who has been by my side and God’s voice to me over and over again. She has made many sacrifices for me in order to serve God these many years. She and my oldest son presented my with my very first stole, one that she made. Thank you Vicki. I share this pin with you.
While we don’t know what the future holds, may we seek to be ever faithful to Christ and his gospel. And my prayer is that I will be as excited about the ministry to my very last day as I was when I was first ordained.
