Missed the Boat!

Where's Waldo?

Where’s Waldo?

Yesterday our youth were to go Whitewater Rafting, however, they missed the boat because the DNR said that the waters were too high. However, they had a good time and wemt hiking at Starved Rock State Park. Spent time in the water and beneath the water fall. Pastor Tim is missing, he is still missing from this picture. I tried to drop him in, he just kept disappearing. The youth had fellowship with one another and experienced God’s creation…His glory, majesty! A great bonding experience.

It has been a busy few weeks for our youth, a Mission Trip, Church camp, Vacation Bible School, and much more!

It is obivious that your gifts are making a difference, but we cannot let up. Thanks people of Faith, the Faith Family!

We have only 36 subscribers, which means that over 100 households do not get it.  It a great tool for the pastors to use to share information quickly! And to keep people informed. Like with the Youth Mission Trip. Or the trip to Israel. Or about the latest gossip. Just kidding. If you would each get one more person to subscribe our number would double. That would be?

Why Do the Pastors Use a Different Bible Translation Than What Is In the Pew?

A number of you have asked the question, why do the pastors use a different Bible translation that is in the pew? Many theologians believe that the newer ESV is one of the closer translations to the Greek. However, the translation in the pews in NIV.

Thus, in light of us wanting to grow Biblical literacy in the church we explored the following options:

  • Do what we have been doing and change nothing
  • Buy new ESV bibles in the pew for a cost of $800-900
  • Or have the pastors use the NIV translation in the pew and give page numbers
  • Personally, I like using and comparing different translations, and I am not bothered by it when hearing a different translation.

However, we do not want to be an obstacle to people’s hearing of the Gospel.

  • So for now the pastors will go back to using the NIV since they are in the pew. The pastors may point out “word differences” — between the translations like a word study. Power point readings also are to be NIV
  • The pastors also will refer to page numbers, as well as text reference too as is printed in first service bulletins.

Thanks for voicing your concerns.
